Door Panel and Stripe Removal

Did some easy stuff today.  Took the rocker panels and lower, outside door mouldings off, along with the inside door panels.

I originally though about saving the door panels, but they're faded and just not in great shape.  I'll keep them, but I'll be putting reproductions on the car.

One weird find was on the passenger side sound/water barrier there was a sticker that seems to indicate some kind of repair.  Click here to see the picture in the Door Panels album.  Maybe the door failed some kind of QA inspection and something had to be redone?

I ended up breaking a couple of plastic tabs that hold in the driver power door lock switch and the power mirror switch.  I'll have to get replacements for those.

I also took the carpet off the center console but still need to get the glue off.  I broke the tabs on the air vents, so I'll have to find replacements vents.

About 2/3 of the stripes are off.  The heat gun is doing a great job removing the foil that has the actual stripe color (or what was left of it anyway) but the 1982 glue is very happy to stay with the car.  I can't get the glue hot enough to remove it with a putty knife (I actually got it so hot it melted my plastic putty knife on contact) so I bought 3M adhesive remover and some Goo Gone.  The 3M stuff was a disappointment.  It softened the glue a little bit, but no where near enough to get the glue off.  The Goo Gone was much more effective at breaking down the adhesive but still takes a bit of effort.  I may hit it with the 3M first and then the Goo Gone.  Maybe even try heat on top of that.  Either way, getting the glue off will take a lot of time.  I found two small rust spots under the stripe tape on both fenders.  Nothing serious, but odd that there was rust on both fenders, in the same spot but on opposite sides.

I really need to get the tranny out from under the car.  I've been tinkering with other stuff because I'm not sure how to get the trans out.  I obviously need to get the whole car off the ground, but I'm not certain I can get it high enough to clear the transmission.
