Engine Rebuild Parts

I spent about two hours online tonight researching parts I will need to put the motor back together.  I found myself at the Summit Racing web site which turned out to have everything I needed.  The site is really well organized and it was pretty simply to find and compare the correct parts for the 1982 305.

The one thing that took me the most time to figure out is what oil pump I wanted to use.  A Melling M55 is the correct replacement pump for the 305, but being paranoid, I did some searching and found that people were having some problems with pump housing cracking and failing.  Like any good religious debate, some people said to step up to a high volume or high pressure version, some people said to use their "select" line (which uses billet components with a billet price), etc. etc. etc.

In the end, I ordered the regular old M55 pump.  The motor, on its best day, will only make 160 HP and won't spend a lot of time in the upper RPM range, so the stock spec pump should be just fine for me.

Check the Summit Racing entry on the Research and Vendors page for the exact parts I ordered for the rebuild.
