First Parts Score

The one thing I'm learning about this car is that the 1982 and 1983 Camaros have some unique parts versus the later cars: the dash pad, the sill plates and even the hood struts for the cars with SMC hoods are different.

The dash pad on the early cars has an almost flat front edge and some detail lines cast in to the vinyl, as shown in the picture.  The later cars had an beveled front edge with no lines.  Nobody makes a reproduction for the 82/83 style dash pad.

Likewise, the sill plates on the 82/83 models have a slot for the seat belt anchor to pass through, versus the later cars that had a cutout to go around the the seat belt retractor mech, which had been moved to the floor in the 84+ models.

In my car the sill plates are destroyed (despite how that picture looks).  Both driver and passenger side are cracked and broken in several places and are beyond repair.

Unfortunately, nobody makes reproductions of the early style sill plates either but but the 84+ style are out there.

Thirrdgen.org to the rescue.  A member had posted a set of 82 sills available in the Parts For Sale section back in April of 2010 and luckily they were still available.  So I now have a good set of sills on the way.  They're black, and will need to be painted, but that's the easy part.

Another TGO member also offered to sell me some OE parts that he had which are correct for my car.  The TGO community is really awesome.
