With the plugs and wires replaced, I took the car out for a test drive this morning. It idled smoothly right from the get go and the stumble at part throttle was mostly gone. I was actually surprised how well the CFI was running so I decided to see if I could pass smog so I could get the car titled.

The engine seemed to be running rich when first started so I was really nervous about what the emissions test would show. Last night I blasted the throttle bodies with a whole can of carb cleaner to get rid up some built up varnish and other crud. The spray patterns looked good (nice, cone shape) so I think the injectors themselves are fine. I also checked the catalytic converter with a temp gun and the outlet temp was about 100' lower than the inlet temp, so it appeared the cat was doing its job.
I really figured I'd fail the test, but either way I needed to know what to fix.
Here in CO, they put cars on rollers for 4 minutes at varying RPM and check the tailpipe emissions. Much to my surprise, the car passed with flying colors. It was actually so clean that the it got a "Fast Pass" -- meaning it only ran on the rollers for 60 seconds. Pretty good for a 30 year old car.
So with my emissions test in hand, I headed to the county building to get my title work going. Unfortunately, the original title had a clerical error with the VIN so I am now working with the Florida DMV to get it corrected. They were really helpful, as was the previous owner. So in the end, not a big deal, but a hassle.
If you ever by a car sight unseen, make sure the VIN on the title matches the car EXACTLY.
